HAWKS & OLYMPIANS REMAIN ON TOP
UM Hawks reconvene
The University of Manila Hawks and the STI College Olympians are taking care of business so that their third finals showdown can be booked. The two teams first met in 2005 with the Hawks winning the fifth of their 5 titles, two years later the Olympians exacted revenge in winning their only NAASCU title. This year, both teams are touted to make it to the finals and with the way things are going they are on course for another title showdown. Both teams beat the 7th and 8th placers AMA Computer University and New Era Hunters in convincing fashion. The Hawks beat the Hunters 68 – 61 and the Titans 67 - 47 while the Olympians buried the Titans 80- 55 and the Hunters 66 – 35.
UM's Eugene Torres fouled
The Centro Escolar University Scorpions stumbled on their opening game in the quarterfinals as the defending Champion San Sebastian College Cavite Baycats exacted revenge as they brought down the Scorpions 72 – 63 while the Informatics Icons continued their amazing run by getting back at their opening day tormentors the Our Lady of Fatima University Phoenix 73 – 68. That development gave the Olympians and the Hawks more breathing room as the Olympians have a two game advantage against their nearest pursuers.
Olympians take the court
Davao bred Eugene Torres topscored in the New Era win while another Davaoeño Rhandelle Colina topscored in the game against the Titans. Last year’s rookie of the Year Jeff Viernes on the other ably backed up the two Davao scorers as he scored 19 and 10 points respectively. For the Olympians it was the all around play of rookie guard Rama Krisna Morales that showed the way for the Olympians as he was spectacular in the game against the Titans and awesome against the Hunters. The Olympians exhibited unforgiving defense as they held the Titans to 55 points and the Hunters to only 37 points.
